Mise-en-scene and Setting Evaluation:

Briefly Describe the Setting/Location and the type of activity/ies would usually take place in this setting?	The room where the man and Bond were talking in had very dark lighting. This made the scene seem scary and mysterious. The room was an office which would usually be well lit, also it had a big window behind, so it being dark has a big effect on setting the mood.
What props have been included in the setting to convey an intended message or describe the activity/ies taking place?	A big work chair, something that you would expect to see a boss in, which helps make them look intimidating. A gun, makes the scene look scary, as you are expecting a person to be killed.  A lamp  A silent gun
What does the contrast (light levels, difference between dark or bright areas) indicate about this setting?	The majority of the setting is in darkness, but there is always light on half of the mens faces, and when the gun is held up it is also in light. This contrast shows that these are the main focal points.
What type of tones or colours are used within the setting; pleasant, simple, cheery, bleak. (Also consider the lighting).	Dark colours, like blacks, grey, dark blu, and dark green have been used to create a scary mysterious mood.
Describe the spaciousness of this setting (Cramped or open/roomy).	-The setting is very cramped. There is not a lot of room to move around in.   -But this is not just because of all the stuff, it is because of all the shadows, so you cant really see what is around.
Describe the physical state (messy, neat, formal).	All the decor and furniture is scattered around on the ground. This creates tension in the setting, like if they were to start fighting they would most likely trip over something.
What is the general atmosphere of this setting (what moods or feelings does it invoke)?	The general atmosphere in the room is very tense, scary, and mysterious. This makes the audience scaed and put into suspense for what the next move is going to be. For example when Bond shoots the other man, you know that it is going to happen but don’t know when which makes it even more scary.
Describe the acting style of the main character within this scene?	The main character is Bond, his acting style is very swift and mysterious. You know he is going to be really violent but he does it with style.
How does this setting contribute to the acting style and character/s personality?	Bond and the setting are both very mysterious, so they compliment each other, and go well together. Also this because obviously if it is going to be a sort of mysterious scene you wouldn't have a setting of rainbows and unicorns.

   

General Cinematography Evaluation
What types of shots are used to convey the intended message in this scene?	Many close up shots have been used on the faces of the two characters to really show the emotions which are being felt.
How does the use of framing convey information to the audience; by hiding or showing specific elements and information.	The framing has been done very well, as you can see the mess of the room, to show what has been going on in there. Also until the gun is being used, it has not been shown in the frame.
Describe how the camera position affects each shot?	The camera positioning helps to show the audience exactly what they want you to see, which then makes you think what they want you to think.
What type of camera movement takes place and how does it enhance the shot?
Does the cinematographer make specific use of under or over exposure to convey a message?	The cinematographer uses under exposure to help with making the scene more mysterious, as for must things you can’t see definite lines, so it kind of means you are always wondering.

-Camera follows the man, and his surroundings change

-In the party scene there are bright colours

-Blue lighting, creates sadness 

-Flicks from Present time of the man, to his memory he is recalling

-Graphic matches of all the dancers

-The slower edits help create the mood of him missing something, and wanting to go back to the time and relive it all

-The edits went along with the music, when the music got faster it went to the fun times he is remembering, but then the music gets slow when it goes back to present time

-The rhythm went with his narration 

Scene edit speed

Scene Description	Editing Speed Slow/Fast	Justification
People are caught in the crossfire between police and bank robbers.	Very quick edits.	Quick editing can be used to create confusion and terror caused by violence.
An innocent character is stalked by a werewolf.	Starts slow, but as the werewolf gets closer the edits will get faster.	By going from slow to fast will help create tension in the scene and for the audience.
A character confesses there horrific crime to someone.	Very slow edits.	Slow editing will drag the scene out longer, and create a suspense and show that the character is nervous and reluctant to confess.
Two teams comete in the finals of a street dance competition.	Ver quick edits.	Street dances are very fast and upbeat so by using fast edits will help in making time go fast.
A high speed car chase ends in tragedy.	Fast, and then slow edits.	Starting with fast edits will match the the car speed, but as the crash happens things will go in slow motion to show the audience how tragic the accident really is, and show them exactly what is happening.

Jeep Comercial Analysis

1. What comments can you make about the rhythm of this commercial?

The commercial goes at a very fast, and up beat rhythm. Also it is always loud, there are no dull moments. And shows that if you buy a jeep your life too can be fast and fun. 

2. How does the editing manipulate the passage of time?

The editing makes the commercial un-linear. The time flicks all over the place, which shows that it is useful for all day everyday. But the begging started with a sunrise, and then ended at sunset, so it gave the scene an opening and closing.

3. Are there any graphic matches and how are they used to enhance the commercial?

One example of a graphic match is when they flicker between showing the whole road and just the white line. Another example is it constantly went back to the cars driving on the road near the cliff. When the people are driving it flicks between lots of different people and lots of different times, but the camera was always set on the same part of the car. This shows that it suits any time and anyone.

Alice 

1. Alice is a quirky character, and is not from present time. She also comes across as a confident courages kind of person. 

1. The reason I think she is quirky, is because she doesn’t always seem as she knows what is going on around her and also because she is just weird. Also I say that she isn’t from this time, is because of the way she dresses which is very different to now, she wears long and light dresses which is quite the opposite to this day in age. 
2. I also think that the way lighting has been used also helps with the mysteriousness. This is because the lighting is quite dark, and sort of dull so it doesn’t give it a ‘pop’.
